One month ago, I had used Pinterest once or twice. It was something I used to look for inspiration but never could be bothered to use it very much. I never really thought I was cool or creative enough to use it on a regular basis so I wasn’t interested in being able to grow on Pinterest. But then we put a deposit down on a new place and a went a ~ little ~ crazy pinning ideas for new decor (check the board here if you’re interested).
Over a few days after that I became more than a little, okay a lot, obsessed with Pinterest. I ended up watching tons of videos on YouTube about Pinterest and realised it can generate some serious traffic if you take it seriously. This was when I started considering tactics to grow on Pinterest.
But, frankly, I couldn’t be bothered.
I all day every day working on content creation, or doing admin around it. And I LOVE that. That’s why I’ve worked to make it my career. But it changes things, Instagram is no longer just Instagram when it becomes your job. A late night scroll doesn’t have the same pure pleasure when your inbox is full and you feel an immense pressure to empty it. Or when seeing a cute dress sparks the idea for a blog post and you ~ have ~ to write it down straight away.
So I was stuck, I wanted Pinterest to be somewhere I went purely for fun. But I felt like I was missing a massive opportunity to generate traffic to my content and share images I love with even more people. I decided against ‘taking it seriously’ and just keeping it fun. But then a few days later a video came up in my YouTube suggested about a website called Tailwind.
Tailwind essentially helps you to schedule pins to your boards and help become more consistent there. Now a couple of times a week when I fall into a Pinterest binge instead of pinning direct to my boards I schedule them. About 12 pins a day go out to my boards throughout the day and I don’t do anything differently.
According to my analytics, I’m now at 76k monthly unique visitors. My blog traffic has gone up and I even made a few sales through affiliate links and made a little cash. Yasssssss 🙌🏼
